Happy Halloween Yappers!
Dear Gentle & Saucy Yappers,
Happy Halloween! I hope everyone does something to get in the spirit even if it’s simply eating a piece of candy. After last week’s ranking I did have some Yappers contact me to show their support for Almond Joy/Mound candy bars. Loving that for you… go support a struggling business I guess ❤️
xoxo, Hailey Girl
RANKING OF THE WEEK: Disney Halloween Movies
No, I did not forget about Twitches, I just never got into that movie. |
R.E.P.O.R.T.
R: READING
JUST READ: Dark Places: 4 stars (52/104 overall ranking)
My gal Gillian Flynn knows how to write a good thriller. Although it did not live up to the hype of Sharp Objects, I was still a fan. Aspects of the ending were slightly far fetched and they didn’t wrap everything up in a perfect bow but overall I was a fan!
Incidents Around the House: 2 stars (93/104 overall ranking)
Now for this book… I was not a fan! Starting with the good aspects - it was written in a very easy to read format which made the book fast paced. I could also see this being a cool movie or television show. Negatives? I fear everything else but I am also starting to think horror books just aren’t for me. They do not scare me in the slightest and then I end up bored.
CURRENTLY READING: Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez
For spooky season I have been heavy on the thrilling and scary reads so it was time for a romance from my favorite author. My Minnesota gal, Abby Jimenez, has only disappointed me once (don’t ask me about The Friend Zone) but otherwise all of her books are golden. This book starts off with an anonymous note and last week I shared my anonymous pumpkin note. Coincidence? I hope not! |

Restaurant: Austin Restaurants
![]() Josephine House ![]() Yamas Greek Restaurant | Hopefully it’s not a saucy take to say that one of the best parts of traveling are the new restaurants. This past weekend I went to Austin, TX to celebrate Ms. Lesley’s bachelorette and although we did not have luck with our cocktails (a sour espresso martini & a sangria that tasted like cleaning supplies), the food absolutely slapped. Although Josephine House provided an entire cilantro plant on top of my avocado toast, it was incredible with the homemade hot sauce (green > red). Not pictured, but truly got a true disco cowgirl and mexican restaurant crossover at Taquero Mucho. Last but certainly not least was Yamas Greek Restaurant. We had our Mama Mia moment and I will never forget about the fried feta with honey. |
P: PLAYING
Music: The Chicks
![]() | Two things I will never get over: boy bands (or really just One Direction) and how the music industry treated The Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks) after a very tame “controversial” political statement. They said, “We’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas” and people treated them like they sacrificed a newborn. Country music stations blacklisted them, new stations were showing people burning their CDs, and the sales of their tour/music declined while they lost their corporate sponsorship. Alexa play “Not Ready to Make Nice” because everyone in the early 2000’s needed a hobby. |
Podcasts: Brooke Averick
If you listen to Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast or Obsessed you are very familiar with the lingo of Brooke Averick and her friends. I am simply obsessed with how they talk and I’m not ashamed to admit that I have 100% incorporated their sayings into my everyday vocabulary. Examples include but are not limited to: “absolutelyyy,” “yayy!,” “and I’ve always said that,” and “you know my heart.” All of these have to be said in a very particular tone which unfortunately does not translate the same via newsletter. At this point, I’m not sure if any of my quirky quips are original in the slightest.
Television: The Haunting of Hill House
Spooky season is a perfect time to discuss one of the best shows Netflix has ever given us. WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS SHOW AND WHERE ARE MORE SEASONS? Now I’m not forgetting about the Haunting of Bly Manor but it simply cannot compete with the Haunting of Hill House. I’m honestly jealous of anyone who has not watched this masterpiece because you get to watch it for the first time. It is genuinely scary so I would not recommend to my scaredy cat gorls but the plot was so good that when something scary happened I was shook because I forgot it was also a scary show. I may need to rewatch to end the Halloween season on the right foot. |
Movies: Olivia Rodrigo Guts World Tour
Did I watch this after already attending the actual concert? Absolutely! I belted the songs out in my living room as the subtitles basically acted as my own personal sing- a-long. Zero shame! My only complaint is that One Direction did the concert movie format better. I want the behind the scenes between songs. I want the juicy details! But I will take what I can get and enjoy my gal Olivia’s music. |
O: OBSESSED
General: Drag Brunches
![]() | I have attended two drag brunches in my life and both times the vibes were immaculate. There is something so fun and safe about the vibes at a drag brunch. It is also the perfect environment to drink more beverages than needed. Absolutely obsessed with a drag brunch on any itinerary! |
Pop Culture: Timothee Chalamet Lookalike Contest
To your left is the winner of the Timothee Chalamet lookalike content. Personally I am not seeing the vision but he won $50 and a party city trophy, so loving that for him. This event was so wild that it had to be moved to a second location, someone was arrested, and Timothee himself showed up to greet the winner. After this event’s massive success, I have no choice but to host a Harry Styles lookalike contest in my apartment. The prize: my undivided attention. |
R: RECOMMEND: Fresca
![]() | No, because what do the Yappers know about Fresca!? I am being dead serious when I say to stop what you’re doing and add this to your next grocery order (not sponsored, unfortunately). I like to describe it as the perfect balance between a sparkling water and a Sprite. I know places are just now getting around to adding Coke Zero to their menus but next on the list needs to be Fresca. |
T: TREAT: Zombie Matcha
![]() | Although this very much looks like you’re typical iced matcha latte it has a twist. For some reason Central Market said adding caramel to matcha makes it a zombie matcha and although I don’t understand the theming, I did love the result. Who knew that carmel and matcha work together? I drank this at an embarrassing speed. I’m hoping the cute man I was shopping in tangent with was impressed and not concerned. |
SAUCY TAKE OF THE WEEK:
Ban music with sirens in the background. I don’t have much more to say because truly as an anxious girl, I constantly feel like a cop is either chasing me or pulling me over once I hear the sirens. It would be really nice if music producers could consider the anxious gals when putting sirens in songs.
SAUCY STORY TIME (YAPPER WRITE-INS):
ok story time!! I am having an event where you had to RSVP by a certain date. I predicted this due date would be a problem for a certain individual so I sent personal reminders to them more than once with no response. Fast forward to the RSVP date and no response indicating if they were bringing a guest. For some reason, they were surprised when after the RSVP date, I said no to them adding a guest. Their response was asking if they could bring an extra chair to the event for the guest. I laughed. The end.
