Edition 30

Grace

Dear Gentle & Saucy Yappers,

Grace appears in two sections of this week’s newsletter which isn’t a lot but it’s also not not a lot for a name. Grace is one of those names that comes up in my life often. One of my cousins: Grace. One of my oldest best friends: Grace. A new bestie: Grace. A gal from my middle school that I for some reason remember weirdly well despite us not having a close friendship: Grace. A girl from my sorority: Grace. A girl from my internship: Grace. And sure I could probably do this about any common female name but this week it is clearly a theme so cheers to Grace!

xoxo, Hailey Girl

RANKING OF THE WEEK: Fictional Places I Want to Drive Around with the Windows Down and Music Blaring

  1. Roku City - the inspiration for this list

  2. Zootopia - Although Zootopia seems like a walkable city… I know they have a place for me to let loose on the road

  3. Radiator Springs - lowkey the point of the town

  4. Mario Kart Mushroom Gorge Track

  5. Wii Sports Resort

R: READING

JUST READ: On the Line: 2 stars (112/121 overall ranking)

I have a lot of complaints about this book but probably the reasoning behind all of them is due to this book’s focus on the smut and not the plut. And some of the smut was highly questionable. Simply not for me whatsoever! Truly this book was about two people that if they met in real life… it would be a life ruining relationship. I would recommend therapy to the female main character!

Favorite Quote: “But the most important thing I’ve learned is that the best place to cry is the walk-in fridge.”

CURRENTLY READING: The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

The March book club theme is: F*ck the Patriarchy and this is the book that was chosen for it. I am excited to read a dystopian book because it has been a hot second! My Hunger Games loving self is ready.

E: EATING

Restaurant: Verde Garden

As this restaurant lets me pretend that I live in a walkable community… it is not my first time at Verde Garden. However it was my first time getting their cheese enchiladas. One thing about me is if I don’t know what I’m getting at a restaurant I will be consulting the Yelp photos. I saw pictures of enchiladas covered in queso despite it not being on the menu. I was so brave and asked for the same and was not disappointed in the result. The cilantro rice > the mexican rice.

If you were wondering what my contribution to was for the ‘Obsessed’ section this week… this was it! In my opinion, it tasted good served warm and cold. Although the dish leans more “summery” I also feel it can work to introduce the Spring season.

P: PLAYING

Music:

Let me tell you how happy I am that a non BRAT Charli XCX song is trending right now! Don’t get me wrong… BRAT is my favorite Charli project to date but I fell in love with her for her old stuff and the people should recognize that Charli has BEEN that girl. What song am I blasting in Roku City? Party 4 U of course.

Song Recommendation: Party 4 U by Charli XCX

Podcasts: Disgraceful

Another podcast has been added to my rotation despite having way too many podcasts on my list already. But I absolutely HAD to support Grace post Briana Chicken Fry and post Barstool. Of course I don’t know her personally but I do know that she deserves better! This week’s guest is Connor Wood and I absolutely love a good crossover episode.

Television: The Traitors

I have been wanting to watch this show but needed to wait for a Peacock plug. This show was described to me as ‘The Mole’ for theater kids and not only did that intrigue me even more… that was the perfect description. Truthfully I have seen many spoilers for this show via Tik Tok about the current season but my goal is to catch up before the finale. Plus I honestly don’t care much about spoilers because I still eat this show up regardless. I also need to acknowledge how Dylan Efron has the same voice and CHARM as Zac Efron. Ok I’m done.

Movies: Don’t Let Go

This movie was unique and thrilling, but also confusing. Don’t Let Go falls into the “I saw it once and will not watch it again category” because what I liked most about it was anticipating what would happen next. There were times I truly got lost in the confusing plot but I would eventually make my way back. The random moments of shaky cam footage were wildly unnecessary.

Rating: 6/10

O: OBSESSED

General: Themed Parties

I love a party! I love a theme! I love a themed party! The more dedication to the theme the better. It just makes an event even better. Don’t like a theme? Sorry you don’t like fun! I got to attend two themed events this week. A book themed bridal shower and a ‘27 dresses’ 27th birthday party. Oh I was gagged! They were both absolutely gorgeous parties.

Pop Culture: Millennial Burger Joints

I’m not sure if I’m on a very specific side of Tik Tok or if everyone is aware of the PR nightmare Millennial Burger Joints are going through currently. People are (rightfully) slamming overpriced burger joints that are the same font different place. Here are warning signs that you may be at a Millennial Burger Joint:

  1. Burger is Served on anything besides a plate

  2. Ketchup comes in a tin or container

  3. Brioche Bun

  4. Uncomfortable but rustic looking chairs/barstools usually in the metal variety

  5. “Handhelds” “Shareables”

  6. Ridiculously Priced

R: RECOMMEND: Virtual Dates

Unfortunately I do not have the funds to visit my long distance friends as much as I want/need to. Distance does not mean you cannot hang out! I can never say that I was born in the wrong time period because I cannot imagine living in a world without facetime and cell phones. Here are cutesy virtual date ideas.

  1. Color the Same Coloring page together while on the phone (even if you are friends with an artist who will upstage you)

  2. Order each other surprise food delivery and have a dinner date

  3. Watch a movie or tv episode at the same time (starting it at the same exact moment is absolutely crucial to avoid spoilers)

  4. Cook the same recipe on facetime

T: TREAT: Cookbook Club Dinner

One thing about me… I will be attending an event. This one just fell into my lap but I loved the concept. Everyone cooking something from a cookbook and bringing it together for a dinner party! We already know what I brought but I’m honestly not sure what my favorite was. There was a chicken, a tortellini soup, a ricotta spread, and salad. It was great food with great yaps.

SAUCY TAKE OF THE WEEK: Bhad Babie

Now Bhad Babie is highly talked about right now due to her beef with Alabama Barker. That absolutely could have been the pop culture section for this week but Yapple Sauce likes to be around a week late to that kind of news just to make sure we have the whole story. By this time next week we could have multiple new songs! Either way Bhad Babie songs unironically slap! And it’s insanely impressive that she was able to launch herself a career from starting as a Dr. Phil meme. So yes, Bhad Babie has my respect!

SAUCY STORY TIME (YAPPER WRITE-INS):

Hello Yapplesauce, I’ve been in this rut where all I’m reading is emotional or sad sack books, which are all incredible, but boy in this fun little situation our country is in I am in desperate need of something a little light hearted. Something that maybe pulls on my heartstrings but only for a teensy bit, then everything is shitting sunshine and rainbows again. What are some recommendations or your top favorite books that give you that girly kicking your feet and giggling feeling? Pretty please my sanity depends on some source of false hope and living vicariously through fictional characters.

Immediately my mind goes to Abby Jimenez books because nothing makes me giggle and kick my feet in the air like her books but at the same time some of her books have heavy topics in them. My favorite mindless romances are the Chestnut Springs series. Cowboy smut! Yay! But I will let the Yappers weigh in on this in the Instagram stories. Submit your “girly kicking your feet and giggling” books to help out this yapper!

DATING PROFILE OF THE WEEK:

This Christian man really said the quiet parts out loud! I don’t know what’s more terrifying: the thought of this man having sons or this man having daughters.
