In my Martha Stewart era

Dear Gentle & Saucy Yappers,

I need to give a special shoutout to an OG yapper - Ms. Lindsey. If you have not seen the stickers she drew up for Yapple Sauce - check them out on instagram. They are absolutely perfect. Thank you for everyone who clicked on Yapple’s first ad last week. You may notice that they are sponsoring again this week so make sure to check out/click that link at the bottom of this newsletter!

xoxo, Hailey Girl

RANKING OF THE WEEK: My Fan Girl Eras

  1. One Direction (you cannot out do this era - the directioner lifestyle was not for the weak; ask me about my One Direction tumblr!)

  2. Justin Bieber (my Bieber Fever walked so my One Direction infection could run!)

  3. Twenty One Pilots (yes I had an edgy side as well, the duality of woman!)

  4. CW shows (I’m talking Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural…what a time! They are just not doing it like this anymore on cable television.

  5. Lana Del Rey (it’s probably best I did not go too deep into this phase before my frontal lobe was fully developed)

R.E.P.O.R.T.

R: READING

JUST READ: The God of the Woods: 3 stars (78/106 overall ranking)

There was just absolutely no reason for this book to be as long as it was. I honestly feel like if we cut out 100 or so pages it would have gotten a higher rating because I did love the summer camp mystery vibe. Given all the evidence as a reader plus additional backstory I still could not connect the dots and solve the case. This book proved to me that I don’t have a future as successful detective.

CURRENTLY READING: Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka

My libby wants me to read thrillers so that is what I will read! This one follows three women who are/have been in the life of a serial killer on death row. I’m immediately sat for this plot! This will be my airport book for the weekend and I tend to have good luck with my airport reads. Fingers crossed!

E: EATING

Restaurants: Vinoteca Poscol & Drake’s Hollywood

Vinoteca Poscol

Drake’s Hollywood

Drake’s Hollywood

It was a great week for me in the restaurant game. I tried two new places and loved them both. Clearly pizza was on my mind. At Vinoteca Poscol the vibe was getting two entrees and splitting. Find a restaurant partner with similar taste because going splitsy is always the vibe. We ordered the Rucola pizza (prosciutto, arugula, tomato, and mozzarella) and tagliatelle al ragu’ bolognese & reggiano. The food was great and may have been even better with a wine buzz flowing.

Next up - Drake’s Hollywood. Oh I am simply obsessed with the aesthetic of this place: old school Hollywood with leather, fun decor, and fancy vibes. I got the filet mignon pizza and macaroni & cheese. It was simply amazing. Although I had absolutely zero room for dessert… I absolutely still needed dessert. Bananas foster cheesecake!? I was honestly disappointed in my stomach for not being able to finish this masterpiece. Luckily, my stomach was very happy with my restaurant choices this week.

Bar: Fiora’s Bottle Shop

Wine bars are simply always the right move. I am nowhere near a wine connoisseur but I enjoy sipping on a sweet, crisp glass of Moscato. Before the wine snobs come from me… yes I know that Moscato tastes like juice. I’m failing to see the problem with that! Fiora’s Bottle Shop introduced me to orange wine. I was missing out on this gem and need to have a bottle of this ready to go at all times. Dare I say it was my favorite glass of wine that I’ve ever had.

P: PLAYING

Music:

What an interesting week for Zach Bryan to show up in my top artists. The man is a terrible boyfriend and absolutely needs therapy (as soon as possible I would suggest). Although from his instagram activity it seems he is going the typical post-breakup activity which is posting an absurd amount of content on social media. I see right through this as I’ve been following this man and have never seen so many pointless instagram stories. Although I fear… his music still slaps.

Song Suggestion: American Spirit by Drumming Bird

Podcasts: Broski Report

Brittany Broski told me to list out my November favorites on this week of the Broski report so I will do exactly that.

  • Documentaries on powerful women

  • Writing Yapple Sauce (and the stickers)

  • Spray tans (specifically where someone else sprays you)

  • Chunky kitten heels

  • Chrome nails

  • Restaurant friend dates

Television: Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?

Normalize watching lowbrow television shows with horrible reenactments. Although the cover shown would make you think there is mainly crazy women featured on this show that is not the case. Shocker… it’s all the husbands. I’m on season two and only one crazy wife has been featured. Everytime it surprises me how these spouses are surprised about the actions of their spouse. A man will have the longest list of red flags and everytime the wife says, “I could have never seen this coming.” Peak entertainment in my book.

Movies: Martha

Oh how I love a well done documentary. I’m not sure who was asking for a Martha Stewart documentary but I’m so glad I watched it. Martha was THAT girl and I was simply not familiar with her game or lore. I strive to give as little fucks as Martha Stewart does. Martha you are not the villain in my eyes - I support your rights and wrongs. You are just a powerful and successful woman! Justice for bitchy women. My favorite letterbox review: “There’s clearly something wrong with her but I like that she uses it to make her house nice.” Also a side note with documentaries: It is impossible to not feature a snippet of a late night host. They are truly the backbone of celeb documentaires. Ending with my favorite quote of the documentary: “Martha did not like being around men who were not smart.”

O: OBSESSED

General: The 7 Point Fashion Theory

This is pretty much a continuation of my previous obsession with accessorizing. The 7 point fashion theory is how I will be attempting to dress in the future. The theory is simple: every piece you wear counts as one point and a staple piece counts as two. For example: Crop top (1 point), Skirt (1 point), Dangly Cherry Earrings (2 points), Sneakers (1 point), Purse (1 points), Necklace (1 point). Keeps the accessorizing in check!

Pop Culture: Sexiest Man Alive 2024

People magazine is obsessed with awarding the sexiest man of the year to men who probably should have won a decade prior. Pop off John Krasinski I guess? What I would give to be a fly on the wall in the boards when this decision is made every year. I have to assume the average age of the voting panel is 43.5 years. I cannot wait for Pedro Pascal to win the award in 2034.

R: RECOMMEND: Photobooths

Any establishment with a photobooth instantly gains points in my opinion. I always recommend paying the overpriced fee for a fun little memento. I love photobooths so much that I bought a photobook dedicated to photobooth prints. My collection is small at the moment but at my current pace it will be filled in no time.

T: TREAT: Cecil’s Pub

The Houston gals in Montrose lost a real one this past weekend. I had to treat myself to my neighborhood pub one last time. I will miss the chaotic vibes and I hope the cat that works there is able to find work elsewhere immediately. I had some of the worst drinks of my life there but it was also where I brought the roster! You cannot put a price on the quality of people watching Cecil’s Pub had to offer. Rest in peace to a real one.

SAUCY TAKE OF THE WEEK: Jojo Siwa

Jojo Siwa. That’s the saucy take. Her recent appearance at Brown University has sent me over the edge. I really tried to defend that girl for a long time but now I have her blocked because I just want no part of her rage bait. That has to be her schtick right? I’m choosing to believe that she purposely does insanely annoying things to get views. Any other reasoning is too difficult for me to process. Add on her annoying Dance Moms takes and she just seems really out of touch. Everything I see from her is against my will and I hope she lives a great life where I do not need to witness any part of it.

SAUCY STORY TIME (YAPPER WRITE-INS):

I hate to report but we were fresh out of write-ins this week so time to write in your saucy story yappers but I have the necessary update from last week: Everyone voted that the yapper’s mom was NOT the asshole. One yapper added that the uncle sounds insane and I have to agree.
