Doing Research on Tik Tok

Dear Gentle & Saucy Yappers,

I feel like I’ve lived a thousand different lives during the month of March. I was a rodeo cowgirl, a Vegas showgirl, a sickly girl, and a working woman. What do they all have in common? I was a powerful woman of course! That is how you properly celebrate International Women’s Month: experiencing the highs and lows of womanhood.

RANKING OF THE WEEK: It Girl Dolls

  1. Bratz - a doll that some parents did not allow their daughters to play will always be iconic

  2. Barbie - the movie movement truly helped her in the rankings

  3. Polly Pocket - the limo, the jet, an it GIRL

  4. My Scene Dolls - truly slept on but they are the models of the doll world and don’t get me started on their computer games

  5. American Girls - they have a STORY to tell

R: READING

JUST READ: The Perfect Couple: 4 stars (41/124 overall ranking)

Elin Hilderbrand does it again. I have yet to read a bad book by her! This one was so different from the other books and I was entertained. I am very excited to watch the t.v. show and hope that Netflix did not screw it up.

CURRENTLY READING: The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin

A book club pick! I’m always excited to read something that is completely new to me because it either ends up being amazing or horrible. As much as I hope to love this book, I won’t be mad if I hate it. My hot take is that a bad book club pick is just as fun to discuss as a good pick.

E: EATING

Restaurant: Barcelona Wine Bar

Living in a city like Houston, I simply want to be constantly trying new places. But this is a place I want to revisit! As a gal who likes to try multiple things, I love that it is a tapas restaurant. We ordered Chicken Pintxo, Patatas Bravas, and Jamon & Manchego Croquetas. If you read all of that and understood nothing - same! Google is my friend at these type of restaurants but I won’t let unfamiliar words stop me from new and flavorful foods!

Recipe: Beef Bowls

If you’re on the food side of Tik Tok, you have probably seen videos about the beef bowl consisting of: ground beef (usually seasoned with taco seasoning), cottage cheese, pineapple, sweet potatoes, avocado, and hot honey. I immediately knew I wanted to try this bowl because I am a sucker for weird food combinations. Despite not loving cottage cheese, I can confirm I loved this bowl and repurchased the ingredients so I can make it again.

P: PLAYING

Music:

Let it be known that my answer to “What would be your walk out song?” and “What would be your stripper song?” are the same answer. American Woman. Now will I find myself in need of this song in either of these circumstances? Probably not but you never can be too prepared. We love a song with dual purposes.

Song Recommendation: American Woman by Lenny Kravitz

Podcasts: Celebrity Memoir Book Club

I had minimal to zero opinions on Madison Beer before listening to her memoirs’ episode of Celebrity Memoir Book Club. Now I am a FIERCE defender of Madison Beer. She was absolutely failed by every adult in her life and it was heartbreaking to hear about. I mean she had her nudes leaked as a CHILD and the adults in her life blamed her? The horrors of child stars’ lives are so scary, I’m not sure why any parent would consider that life for their kid.

Television: Survivor Pearl Islands

The second season of my Survivor journey is complete! I truly loved this season. It had great people to root for and root against. I would recommend this season to anyone who would ask and out of the two seasons I have watched this takes the number one spot!

Favorite Player: Rupert

O: OBSESSED

General: Croissants

I have trouble saying no to a croissant in general but when they look like this!? Simply impossible. Presentation will always get to me. These beauties were from Common Bond. They were pistachio and guava flavored. While the guava croissant was great, we all know how I feel about pistachio. There is just something particularly powerful about a food item that plays equally well as either sweet or savory.

Pop Culture: Remi Bader

I feel like this section of the newsletter ends up being things I am the opposite of ‘Obsessed’ with. Anyone who knows Remi Bader saw this coming: she got a weight loss surgery. I could discuss this topic for hours. It is difficult because I truly was a fan of her content but the lying I could not get behind. While I respect an individual being able to speak on something when they are ready, Remi built her platform on being plus size and went silent when she was no longer plus size AND conveniently she was ready to share when she could monetize off of the truth.

R: RECOMMEND: Medicube Pads

A common theme… I was influenced by Tik Tok. I was specifically searching for something to help with my skin texture though because your girl has bumpy skin! Let me tell you that this truly makes my skin feel so smooth almost instantly. It doesn’t help with acne, my online research (Tik Tok) told me that is the red one that helps with that. So of course I also purchased the red ones. My game plan is red pads in the morning and blue pads at night.

T: TREAT: Drizzle Cheesecake

I got the one treat from the Houston Rodeo that I was craving from first sight. We got the Biscoff Delight Cheesecake. The cheesecake was frozen, then dipped in chocolate, and then topped with biscoff cookie crumbles. It was absolutely delicious but very rich. Even between three hungry girly pops, we could not finish the dessert.

SAUCY TAKE OF THE WEEK: Plus One Etiquette

Weddings truly are so much more controversial than they need to be. Perhaps I hear a lot about weddings because I am at the age where everyone in my life and their sister is getting married. Here is my ultimate take on if every guest should get a plus one to a wedding despite their relationship status: that is up to the married couple. I think every decision is up to whoever is getting married but of course decisions come with consequences. If I’m a single person and I don’t know anyone at the wedding besides the married couple, chances I attend that wedding are extremely low. Personally, I would love if the single people got plus ones because single people aren’t less deserving of plus ones in my opinion but I’m not the one getting married!

YAPPY HOUR: Heights

In my old age (28 years old), I may have to admit to myself that I am slightly afraid of heights. I always had a small fear of heights that felt unstable but now it is much more than small. I cannot understand how my brain works because I would rather the ferris wheel go quickly in circles than to be stopped at the top. Riding carnival ferris wheels are out and the aesthetic of carnival ferris wheels are in.
