Spooky Season
Dear Gentle & Saucy Yappers,
September is that awkward time where you don’t know if you are supposed to feel summer or fall vibes. My heart says fall but the weather screams summer. No matter what state you are in, October brings the fall vibes! Time to get spooky and cozy.
xoxo, Hailey Girl
RANKING OF THE WEEK: Types of Reese’s

R.E.P.O.R.T.
R: READING
JUST READ: Atmosphere: 4.5 stars (32/158 overall ranking)
Taylor Jenkins Reid refuses to write a book that doesn’t make me cry! I had all the emotions while reading this. My hated character of this book: Barbara. I HATE a gal who refuses to take accountability. The only thing that stopped this for being a five star read for me personally was that it took me awhile to get into the book.
Favorite Quote: “Happiness is so hard to come by. I don’t understand why anyone would begrudge anyone else for managing to find some of it.”
The Perfect Child: 4 stars (62/158 overall ranking)
Oh I HATED the husband in this book. There is nothing spookier to me than a book about a wife being gaslit by her husband while struggling with motherhood. If you read Push (a top 10 favorite book of mine), this book has a similar energy. This book was a page turner but unfortunately the ending was lackluster. I would still recommend it but be prepared to be left slightly disappointed in the end.
CURRENTLY READING: Sunlight by Devney Perry
![]() | We love a cowboy series! I’m not sure if the Haven River Ranch series is getting anymore books after this but at the moment this is the second and last book of the series. I didn’t love the main male character in the first book as a background character so hopefully he can earn points back as a leading man. |
E: EATING
Restaurant: Polite Pig
![]() | My bbq hot take is that I will always choose pulled pork over brisket! The Polite Pig is in Disney Springs in Orlando, FL and I had no complaints! Everything was tasty and with multiple bbq sauce options, I found myself mixing and matching! |
P: PLAYING
Music:
![]() | Olivia Dean’s album, The Art of Loving, is out! It is PERFECT. Even if we ignore the fact that her voice is incredible (I will not be ignoring that), the lyrics and vibes of the songs are also immaculate. The album is the perfect balance between soul crushing and hopeful. This album WILL be on repeat. Song Recommendation: Baby Steps by Olivia Dean |
Podcasts: Giggly Squad
I just know that Hannah and Paige would be yappers because majority of their conversations are random yaps. Hannah reminded me that DJ stands for Disc Jockey and now I am YEARNING to meet a random man at the bar who tells me that he is a DJ, so I can say, “oh a Disc Jockey!” Because that title is instantly humbling. Hannah and Paige also discussed that there should be more women DJs because the best people to put on AUX are always women. Women know the vibes!
Poll Update: It was a tough race between gel pens and ballpoint pens. With 58.33% of the votes, the ballpoint yappers are in the majority. As a gel pen user, I am happy to be in the minority.
Television: Abbott Elementary
![]() | Abbott Elementary is back with it’s fifth season. Let’s make this show for an infinite amount of seasons please. I truly dread the day that this show stops because it brings me so much joy. It is the perfect mix of funny and pure. |
Movies: Notting Hill
![]() | Yes, this was my first time watching Notting Hill. Hugh Grant!? I was unfamiliar with what a cutie pie you were. ESPECIALLY in those glasses because wow. Now I hate that this movie made me side with a man because Julia did not deserve all of the chances that Hugh was giving her. But it was all worth it to hear the line, “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” They ate with that. |
O: OBSESSED
General: Halloween Horror Nights
![]() | At my ripe age, I can do without theme parks, but when I say that I’m never talking about Halloween Horror Nights. It is the perfect way to celebrate the spooky season. Although the houses don’t scare me, they give me a fun adrenaline rush. My favorite house this year was Galkn, Monsters of the North. I judge a house by the theming, the story, and the scary vibes and that house did it the best in my opinion. The scariest house for me was the WWE one. Those masks were truly unsettling. |
Pop Culture: Cardi vs. Nicki
![]() | Cardi B. has a new album out and she is READY to be in the Yapple headlines. The twitter beef that is happening between her and Nicki is a different level of unhinged. WHY are we bringing the children into this. Kulture didn’t do anything to be called “a roach and monkey.” Mind you, she is SEVEN YEARS OLD. |
R: RECOMMEND: Bayou Babes
![]() | I’m not sure if it just Houston that is full of women social clubs but the vibes at these events are immaculate. I highly recommend joining a social group and if you are in Houston, this is your sign to attend a Bayou Babes event. The first event involved tiny tinis for a dollar, adorable cookies, and karaoke. The Sip & Girl event was my first event but it will not be my last. |
T: TREAT: Happy Go Lucky
![]() | As a gal who does not love snow cones, it was on me for getting a snow cone as a treat. The vibes at Happy Go Lucky were extremely fun and cute but I was done with my treat after a couple of bites. It might be more of a vibe if it was extremely hot outside. |
SAUCY TAKE OF THE WEEK: Amusement Park Couples
What is in the air at an amusement park that makes certain couples go feral for each other? The PDA is out of this world in a line for a roller coaster. The thing is… it is hot outside and you are walking/standing around all day. Not the particular setting that gets me in the mood personally. I will never understand amusement park couples and I don’t want to.
YAPPY HOUR: Pronunciation of Reese’s
To stay on theme with the ranking of the week, it is about time we address the way that a large part of the population pronounces Reese’s. You know who you are. And hey, if you realize that you say the candy name incorrectly but that is just the way you say it, I respect it. But to the people who are wrong and claiming they are not… how? There is an apostrophe between the name Reese and the S. There is a jingle that gives anyone listening a tutorial on how to properly pronounce the candy. Reecie’s is simply wild.
